"Leaf Series"  2004-05

The first series of Leafs were well received and I decided to continue on with Series. I had been doing Metal Sculpture for years but this new series of Modern Sculpture still seemed to have a lot directions left to explore. Contemporary Sculpture can be reinvented by adding new elements. I began incorporating painted rocks into this series or doubling as as accents to create contrasting colors and compositions. These Abstract Sculptures worked well in couples also, with one element playing off the other in composition and contrasting colors I opened up new possibilities to explore. I also did some low lying Floor Pieces of Modern Contemporary Sculpture with a contrasting colored rock pushing the Geometric Abstraction into the realm of Geometry imitating Nature. Still standing by my Vocabulary and Concept of "The Point in Space that Circles have in Common", I made a particularly nice low lying Abstract Modern Sculpture called "Red Rock River Wash". The Modern Sculpture had a low lying composition and resembled natural debris washing down a river. This was a good example of how playful Modern Sculpture can be while still emboding my core Conceptual Sculpture perameters. The Modern Abstract Sculptures which I composed in couplings were a new direction and ended up as Corporate Art, being installed at The Grand Hyatt, in Tokyo, Japan. This Body of Leaf Sculptures primarily explored the coupling of sculptural elements and the adding of a new elements, both inviting the viewer in to further enjoy the contrast of elements and color. I will push my Modern Sculpture as far as I can before exhausting a Series and moving on to the next. This Series spawned on some larger coupled Painted Steel Sculpture and the mixing of colored elements to add contrast proved a successful endeavor from a visual point of view.
